How large is your
mailing going to be? how many recipients etc?
Group Mail Free is best
suited to small groups (<= 100) that you do not mail all
that frequently. Group Mail Free can only send in personal mode
and only to 100 recipients per mailing session.
Group Mail Pro allows
you to send in both Personal and Bulk mode. Group Mail Pro is ideal
for groups of up to 25,000. Please note that if you choose to
send in Bulk Mode mailings will be faster but your messages will not be personalized. There is no send size
limitation in this version.
Group Mail Plus is
suited to mailings of any size. It comes in to its own when you
are doing large mailings that require personalization (which
isn't possible when sending in bulk mode). Group Mail Plus is able to send up to
64 messages
simultaneously. Group Mail Free and Pro only send messages one at a time.
How frequently are you going to be sending email? daily,
weekly, etc.?
If you are going to be sending to medium to large size
groups frequently (daily) then really you should consider using
Group Mail Plus in order to get your message delivered as
quickly as possible. Also using Group Mail Plus allows you the
option of not using your ISPs mail server which they should
appreciate if your groups are large.
If time isn't a factor
then you should use the other questions here to help decide
which version is for you.
Does your Internet
Service Provider support SMTP Email?
If the answer to this question is no then you will need to
consider using either Group Mail Pro or Group Mail Plus. If you
have a lot of recipients to send email to then Group Mail Plus
would seem like the perfect choice with its high speed sending
engine.
If you are not sure if
your ISP provides SMTP Email support then you should contact
their technical support department and check with them (Please
note that with the use of the free SMTP to MAPI gateway you can
also send through MAPI based systems - including the MSN
Internet Service and most corporate mail transports (there is
also an Outlook Gateway available free for MS Exchange users)
.
Bare in mind that some
Free ISPs do offer SMTP Email support - however they have severe
limitations on it to stop people from sending volume email. This
is common with Free Internet Service providers. You get what you
pay for really.
Does your Internet
Service Provider have any limitations on their email service?
Lots of providers now do, and their reasons for having them
are sound. Most ISPs that have mail limitations have them in
place to stop spammers from abusing their services. A lot of
free ISPs when they started were used by spammers because they
could simply throw away their account when they had finished
sending their rubbish.
All versions of Group
Mail can deal with sending limitations. Group Mail Free can
allow you to set the number of messages to send and can allow
you to determine a pause time which makes the software wait
before sending again. This is ideal if your provider only allows
you to send say 100 messages per hour.
Group Mail Pro allows
you to do this as well as bypassing your mail server completely
(direct sending).
Group Mail Plus allows
all these options but with much higher sending speed (direct or
otherwise).
Please note that some ISPs block out-bound connections on Port
25 making Direct Sending impossible. They do this to try and
reduce spam. To see if you are blocked you should contact your
ISP.
Do you want to be
able to send SMS type messages or import directly from
databases?
then you will need to use Group Mail Plus. Both of these options
(and many more) come free to charge to Plus users in the form of
plug-ins and add-ons).
Do you want to be
able work with XML / XSL documents?
then you will need to use Group Mail Plus. Group Mail Plus comes
with a free plug-in which allows you to transform XML documents
using XSL style sheets into Group Mail messages quickly and
easily .
